Employment - Certification classes

Nautix offers American Red Cross certification courses. All courses are taught by licensed American red cross instructors. Anyone interested in registering for an upcoming class should register online or call the office at 615-397-2114.

Lifeguard Training Class (LGT)

The Lifeguard Training Class is an all inclusive class that teaches the skills necessary to work as a certified lifeguard. Successful candidates will receive certificates for Lifeguard Training/First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.

Note: LGT certification is valid for 3 years from completion date and CPR for the Professional Rescuer is valid for 2 years from completion date.

Before advancing, all potential candidates must demonstrate strong swimming and diving skills by successfully completing the following prerequisites at the beginning of the first day:

SWIM TEST

Note: There is no time requirement for this skill. Candidates must show only that they can swim 300 yards using the above strokes without stopping.

BRICK TEST

Note: When returning to the starting point, the candidate must hold the 10-pound object with both hands and must keep his or her face above the water.

In addition to demonstrating proper execution of water and rescue skills, all participants will also be required to pass a three section written exam and must receive a grade of 80% or above on all three sections.

CPR for the Professional Rescuer (CPRO)

CPR for the Processional Rescuer is needed for those guards whose LGT certification is still current. This class teaches the skills needed to respond appropriately to respiratory and cardiac emergencies. Adult, Child, and Infant Skills will be covered as well as 2 person CPR and the use of breathing and AED devices. Participants must demonstrate proper rescue skills and successfully complete a two section written exam with a score of 80% or above.

  1. How much does it cost?
    In general LGT classes cost between $175-275 and CPRO classes cost between $65-85. The cost for classes can vary from season to season depending on new programs and guidelines set forth from the American Red Cross.   2. How long does it take?
    The LGT class is 4 full days typically held over two consecutive weekends. The CPRO class can be completed in one full day. Current times and locations are listed on our sign up now section of the website or call our office at 615-397-2114.
  3. What do I need to bring?
    LGT participants should bring warm clothes to change into, a towel, money or food for lunch, and a bathing suit (one-piece for females). CPRO participants should bring rescue mask and book. CPRO books can be purchased at the class for $45 and masks for $15 if needed.
  4. How do I pay for the class?
    We offer a number of different payment options including online via PayPal/credit card, cash or check. Employees also have the option to have class fees deducted from their paychecks.
